Why bother with wikis in the ESL classroom?

Here are some ideas....do you have any others?

  1. You can organise the content of a lesson so that it flows and is sequential.
  2. Students become engaged
  3. Quite students start communicating
  4. Wikis can allow for classroom differentiation though pace, level and complexity
  5. Wikis bring the world in to the classroom via the net
  6. Students can share ideas and opinions online via the wiki forum
  7. Students build a sense of community as they participate as class wiki-users
  8. Wikis provide genuine student centred learning through collaboration on tasks that are then shared and peer- reviewed.
  9. You can design content that specifically supports ESL learners
  • visual aides
  • audio files that allow for multiple listens
  • links to real-world issues relevant to their interests and issues.
  • Information about Australia and the Australian curriculum direct from English appropriate sites
